MVMT50 Brings Diversity to SXSW
SXSW had a notable lack of diverse programming as recent as two to three years ago. The Music portion of the festival wasn’t necessarily an issue – though there is a stereotype that relegates the talents of ‘people of color’ to the Entertainment Industry… An Interactive voice devoid of diverse opinions and experiences has been a major detriment to SXSW’s growing audience. Enter MVMT50, formerly Blacks In Tech.
MVMT50 is a “coalition of thought leaders and creators across all industries, who gather annually during the SXSW Interactive Festival to highlight the impact minorities have in shaping innovation and growing their respective industries, applications, products and services.” Led by Founder Donnell Creech, MVMT50 has worked to integrate this much needed programming into SXSW.
MVMT50 has helped to produce a unique programming schedule on “Africa 2.0, The Digital Divide,” and more, and will host such thought leaders as Sherri Shepherd, Nick Cannon, Kathryn Finney, and Mario Armstrong this week. Find MVMT50 programming here.
